Data Governance Lead

About the role

This role offers the chance to own and expand a data governance function within a company undergoing a major data transformation. You will shape governance frameworks, introduce new tooling and help the organisation use data more reliably and securely.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of a new data governance platform, owning the process end‑to‑end.
• Develop and embed data governance frameworks, standards and best practices.
• Establish and drive data ownership and stewardship models across the organisation.
• Define and implement data contracts to support reliable data product development.
• Lead data lineage initiatives, mapping flows from source systems to reporting layers.
• Support data compliance activities, including GDPR requests, data retention and governance controls.
• Assess and improve data governance maturity against recognised frameworks.
• Engage and influence stakeholders across both technical and non‑technical teams.
• Contribute to the evolution of the governance function, with potential future line‑management responsibility.

Required profile

• Strong commercial experience in data governance within a modern data environment.
• Proven expertise in data lineage and understanding of end‑to‑end data flows.
• Solid knowledge of data compliance and GDPR principles.
• Experience implementing or managing data governance tools such as Collibra or Informatica.
• Understanding of data products and data contracts is advantageous.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Comfortable working autonomously and taking ownership of key initiatives.
