Data Security Lead

About the role

Barclays is looking for a Data Security Lead to strengthen the organisation's data protection and security posture across critical business platforms. You will partner with technology, security and business teams to design and implement robust data protection controls, ensuring regulatory compliance and secure innovation.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand security requirements and enhance overall risk management.
• Execute risk assessments, identify cybersecurity threats, and guide mitigation strategies.
• Develop and implement security policies and procedures aligned with the risk management framework.
• Manage implementation, testing and monitoring of security controls across IT systems.
• Lead training sessions to raise cybersecurity awareness among employees.
• Handle complex cybersecurity incidents in coordination with IT and response teams.

Required profile

• Extensive expertise in data protection, privacy and regulatory frameworks such as GDPR, DPIAs and privacy risk assessments.
• Strong experience designing Data Protection by Design controls, including classification, encryption, access management, retention, masking and secure data sharing.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and make risk‑based decisions.
• Understanding of data security considerations across cloud, data platforms, analytics and AI environments.

Required skills

• Tokenisation technologies.
• Encryption technologies (e.g., Protegrity, Thales Cipher Trust, TDE, field/column/application/file‑level encryption, encryption in transit).
