Database SME – PostgreSQL & Azure (Contract)

About the role

We are seeking a Database Subject Matter Expert to join a two‑month, part‑time contract supporting a database modernisation programme. The role focuses on PostgreSQL environments hosted on Microsoft Azure and will be primarily remote.

Key responsibilities

• Provide PostgreSQL DBA expertise, including performance tuning, backup/recovery and high‑availability design.
• Administer and optimise Azure‑hosted database instances.
• Lead database migration and modernisation activities across cloud and on‑premise platforms.
• Implement and maintain database security, governance and access controls.
• Develop automation scripts using Python, PowerShell or shell languages.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to troubleshoot issues and ensure smooth delivery.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a PostgreSQL DBA with a strong track record of performance optimisation.
• Hands‑on experience managing databases in Azure.
• Background delivering migration and modernisation projects.
• Knowledge of database security, governance and access management.
• Ability to support both cloud and on‑premise environments.
• Excellent stakeholder management and problem‑solving skills.
