Datacenter Technician Apprentice (Level 3)

About the role

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation team is looking for a Level 3 Datacenter Technician Apprentice. You will gain hands‑on experience supporting the core infrastructure that powers services such as Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive and Azure while working toward a nationally recognised qualification.

Key responsibilities

• Follow data‑center policies, procedures and deadlines under the guidance of experienced technicians.
• Read and interpret Process Change Notifications (PCNs) and assess operational impact.
• Assist with the installation, diagnosis, troubleshooting, replacement and de‑commissioning of network, storage and server equipment.
• Resolve support tickets while monitoring relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Participate in daily safety briefings and adhere to PPE and security protocols.
• Collaborate across shifts, share information and contribute to handovers.
• Escalate technical, safety or security incidents according to established procedures.
• Complete mandatory training on security, data management and environmental health & safety.

Required profile

• GCSEs (Maths & English) with grades 4–9.
• Minimum age of 18.
• Strong interest in technology and engineering.
• Good communication, teamwork and problem‑solving abilities.
• Willingness to learn in a fast‑paced environment.
• UK citizenship or residency with eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
