Deputy Chief Medical Officer

About the role

BPAS is seeking a Deputy Chief Medical Officer to provide senior medical leadership across the organisation. Working closely with the Chief Medical Officer and the executive team, you will help translate strategic objectives into operational delivery and drive improvements in access, quality and patient outcomes for reproductive health services.

Key responsibilities

• Lead clinical strategy implementation and oversee programmes that enhance service productivity and patient care.
• Collaborate with medical, nursing, midwifery and operational leaders to foster innovation and develop new models of care.
• Strengthen clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement processes.
• Deputise for the Chief Medical Officer, representing BPAS internally and externally and contributing to senior organisational decisions.
• Support the development and appraisal of the medical workforce, including job planning and professional development.

Required profile

• GMC‑registered doctor with extensive senior clinical leadership experience in a complex healthcare environment.
• Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering large‑scale service transformation.
• Deep understanding of clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement.
• Strong relationship‑building and influencing abilities across professional and organisational boundaries.
• Ability to lead confidently through change, balancing strategic thinking with operational delivery.
• Experience in reproductive or women’s health is advantageous but not essential.
