Deputy Children & Young People Lead

About the role
Rape Crisis South London is looking for an experienced Deputy Children & Young People Lead to support the growth and transformation of its therapeutic services. Reporting to the CYP Clinical Lead, you will provide day‑to‑day clinical leadership, safeguarding oversight and line management for counsellors and therapists working with children and young people.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the CYP Clinical Lead with assessments, case allocation and pathway management.
- Provide clinical guidance and daily support to CYP counsellors and therapists.
- Line‑manage allocated staff, contributing to recruitment, induction and professional development.
- Oversee group programmes, including family support groups.
- Act as Designated Safeguarding Officer for the CYP team and rotate as Deputy Safeguarding Lead when required.
- Escalate complex safeguarding concerns and ensure compliance with legislation.
- Contribute to service improvement, contract delivery and performance monitoring.
- Build and maintain relationships with external agencies and partners.
- Deputise for the CYP Clinical Lead as needed.
Required profile
- Degree‑level qualification in counselling or psychotherapy (or equivalent experience).
- Professional membership with an accredited counselling/psychotherapy body.
- Minimum 200 hours post‑qualification supervised client work.
- At least three years’ experience working with children and young people affected by rape and sexual violence.
- Experience leading or supporting a team.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation (children and adults) and completed Level 3 safeguarding training.
- Experience in the Violence Against Women and Girls sector and familiarity with trauma‑informed, survivor‑centred, feminist practice.
- Ability to use data and outcomes to drive service improvement.
