Deputy Director Business Strategy

About the role

The Deputy Director Business Strategy will lead the implementation of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Finance Group’s 2030 Strategy. Reporting to senior finance leadership, you will shape transformation across the department, ensuring the strategy is embedded, understood, and consistently applied.

Key responsibilities

• Empower and inspire the division, fostering an inclusive culture and developing people.
• Collaborate with the Transformation Office to design enterprise‑wide frameworks that embed the 2030 Strategy.
• Design and operate assurance processes to track progress, identify risks, and provide insight to senior leaders.
• Lead strategic projects that mobilise service groups for major transformational change.
• Develop and maintain a live business strategy aligned with emerging skills and departmental priorities.
• Build trusted relationships with senior DWP leaders, HM Treasury, and Ministers, influencing outcomes and expectations.

Required profile

• Strategic thinker capable of operating at pace in a complex Whitehall environment.
• Proven ability to influence senior leaders and navigate departmental governance.
• Strong leadership and people‑development experience.
• Demonstrated experience delivering large‑scale transformation programmes.
