About the role
NHS England's North West Regional Finance Team leads financial oversight, accountability and sustainability across a health system with an annual revenue budget of around £24bn. As Deputy Director of Financial Performance & Oversight, you will lead the regional approach to financial oversight across providers and Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), combining financial management, forecasting and recovery expertise with a focus on productivity, operational performance and value. You will work with senior NHS leaders and national colleagues to identify risks early, provide support and challenge, and help turn resources into better patient outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Lead assurance and oversight of financial performance across 30 NHS trusts and foundation trusts and 3 ICBs, supporting the Director of Finance in delivering the regional financial position and longer-term sustainability.
- Assure coherent annual plans, monitor delivery, draw insight from complex financial and operational information and ensure timely, high-quality reporting and briefing.
- Proactively identify and manage key risks, agree mitigating action and recommend escalation, improvement support or regulatory intervention where needed.
- Challenge Board-level leaders constructively, secure accountability and support delivery of agreed plans.
- Lead the Financial Performance, Oversight and Intervention team, build relationships across organisational boundaries, contribute to regional priorities and cross-directorate initiatives, and deputise for the Director of Finance as required.
Required profile
- Qualified Accountant and CCAB member.
- Experience at a senior level leading a finance team.
- Very senior experience, including providing informative financial reporting, delivering complex change and strategy development programmes in a politically sensitive environment.
What we offer
- Professional development, mentoring, CPD and study support, with exposure to senior leaders.
- For existing NHS staff, an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) is initiated after a successful interview, which can retrieve data such as competency status and annual leave entitlement; staff can opt out at any stage.
- Visa sponsorship is not offered.
