Deputy Head of Student Services – SEND Education

About the role

The Deputy Head of Student Services will work closely with the Head of Student Services in a specialist SEND education setting. You will help create a safe, supportive environment for children and young people with autism, profound and multiple learning disabilities, and other complex needs.

Key responsibilities

• Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, responding to safeguarding concerns and supporting the safeguarding team.
• Build trusting relationships with students, parents, carers and external professionals.
• Promote attendance, wellbeing, positive behaviour and inclusion across the school.
• Support pupils with autism, learning disabilities, physical disabilities and other complex needs.
• Collaborate with education, health and social care professionals to ensure coordinated support.
• Help ensure the pastoral and safeguarding services run effectively, dividing time between direct student support, family liaison and agency partnership.

Required profile

• Experience in senior pastoral, safeguarding or SEND roles such as Deputy Head, Pastoral Lead, Safeguarding Lead or Service Manager.
• Demonstrated ability to work with vulnerable children and young people with complex needs.
• Strong relationship‑building skills with families and external agencies.
• Commitment to promoting inclusion, attendance and wellbeing.
