Deputy Headteacher with Teaching Responsibilities

About the role

Polaris Education is seeking a caring and forward‑thinking Deputy Headteacher with teaching responsibilities for Martha H School. The role is based on site in Wigan and offers the chance to shape a supportive environment for pupils aged 5 to 16, with a strong focus on inclusion and SEND provision.

Key responsibilities

• Lead high‑quality teaching and learning across the school, ensuring differentiated instruction for SEND students.
• Assess, monitor and report on pupil progress, working closely with the SENCo.
• Drive whole‑school strategic planning and curriculum development.
• Provide curriculum training for staff during INSET and CPD sessions.
• Deputise for the Headteacher, managing staff recruitment, onboarding and performance.
• Lead careers, reading and writing programmes to prepare pupils for next steps.
• Promote a therapeutic approach to behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
• Collaborate with parents, staff and external professionals to achieve the best outcomes for students.

Required profile

• Significant experience in school leadership, preferably as a senior teacher or deputy head.
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive education and SEND provision.
• Strong organisational and strategic planning abilities.
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills with staff, pupils and families.
