Deputy Home Manager – Residential Children’s Services

About the role

Reporting to the Home Manager, you will help create a safe, stimulating environment for young residents and staff. In the Home Manager’s absence you will take full responsibility for the home’s operations and develop the leadership skills needed for future progression to a Registered Manager role.

Key responsibilities

• Deputise for the Home Manager, overseeing all professional and administrative functions.
• Lead day‑to‑day team management and support staff development.
• Conduct high‑quality supervision, induction and ongoing training for staff.
• Plan rotas, ensure shift coverage and manage daily work routines.
• Maintain compliance with Regulation 44/45, SCCIF, health and safety and quality‑of‑care standards.
• Develop, implement and review care plans while safeguarding children.
• Build positive relationships with residents, families and educational partners.
• Advocate for young people’s wishes and ensure their voices are heard.
• Maintain accurate records, prepare for statutory reviews and attend planning meetings.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience in a residential children’s home, with at least 1 year in a team‑leader or senior support role.
• Full driving licence and access to a car with appropriate insurance.
• Proven leadership ability and experience delivering staff supervision.
• Strong record‑keeping and reporting skills.
• Knowledge of Working Together to Safeguard, Regulation 44/45, SCCIF and health‑and‑safety legislation.
