Deputy Manager - Residential Childcare

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Deputy Manager to support the leadership of our 4‑bed residential home in Reading. The role involves overseeing daily operations, safeguarding children, and working closely with the Registered Manager to ensure a safe, nurturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Act as deputy to the Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring effective safeguarding in the Registered Manager’s absence.
• Address and manage safeguarding concerns in line with legislation, raising issues to the Responsible Individual and Directors promptly.
• Develop and maintain relationships with schools, local authorities, Ofsted and LADO as directed.
• Oversee records and reports, providing feedback to staff.
• Support children’s education and encourage participation in hobbies and interests outside the home.
• Monitor home standards to ensure safety, cleanliness and suitability for the children.
• Maintain statutory records and ensure compliance with organisational policies.
• Liaise with parents, carers and professionals for statutory meetings when delegated.
• Cover unsocial hours, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and regular sleep‑ins.

Required profile

• NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People Workforce (essential).
• Experience working with young people who have social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties (essential).
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in residential childcare (essential).
• Up‑to‑date knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations 2015.
• Experience in a supervisory capacity.
• Understanding of GDPR Regulations 2018.
• Flexibility to cover unsocial hours and sleep‑ins.

Required skills

• Good IT skills.
• Experience using web‑based information systems.
• Knowledge of GDPR regulations.
