Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a mechanically‑minded Design Engineer to join a specialist engineering organisation delivering bespoke industrial systems. You will work on projects from concept through to manufacture and installation, producing accurate drawings and supporting documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Produce detailed 2D design drawings and plant layouts for manufacturing and installation.
• Develop general arrangement drawings, parts lists (BOMs) and fabrication details.
• Carry out site surveys to inform system design and layout.
• Liaise with suppliers to obtain quotations and support procurement.
• Support inspection of fabricated components to ensure quality standards.
• Collaborate with engineering, sales and project teams.
• Maintain accurate drawing office records and adhere to design standards.
• Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

Required profile

• HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong mechanical engineering background with design experience.
• Proficient in AutoCAD 2D (3D experience such as Inventor advantageous).
• Experience producing manufacturing and fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable working with bespoke or engineered‑to‑order systems.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
