Design Engineer – Mechanical Design & Project Engineering

About the role

We are seeking a Design Engineer to join a well‑established engineering firm in Chester. You will work on bespoke process and handling solutions for blue‑chip manufacturers, progressing from concept through to installation.

Key responsibilities

• Produce plant layouts, general arrangements and detailed fabrication drawings using SolidWorks 3D and AutoCAD 2D.
• Manage engineering projects from sales hand‑over through to installation and final delivery.
• Liaise with customers, suppliers and internal teams throughout project delivery.
• Prepare Bills of Materials, technical documentation, O&M manuals and job costing updates.
• Assist with site surveys, equipment selection, supplier inspections and commissioning activities.

Required profile

• HNC, HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience using SolidWorks 3D (essential) and willingness to develop AutoCAD 2D skills.
• Background in mechanical design, CAD, draughting or project engineering.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Positive attitude and eagerness to learn.
