Design Engineer – Structures & Geotechnical (Leeds)

About the role

We are seeking a Design Engineer to join our Kier Design team in Leeds. You will work within the Structures & Geotechnical team delivering civil and structural solutions for rail and water infrastructure projects. The role offers a competitive salary, 40‑hour week with flexible hours, and the chance to work on high‑profile schemes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver Permanent Works designs across our infrastructure portfolio, from concept to delivery.
• Provide technical input to bids, developing innovative and buildable concepts.
• Develop alternative designs and value‑engineering solutions to enhance competitiveness.
• Review and assure third‑party designs for compliance with client and Kier standards.
• Identify and manage technical risks throughout design and construction stages.
• Conduct site visits, inspections and surveys, offering advice on Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) matters.
• Fulfil Job Leader responsibilities, including client liaison and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering civil and structural designs on infrastructure projects.
• Confidence in creating safe, buildable Permanent Works solutions.
• Ability to support tenders and bids through outline design and feasibility stages.
• Strong collaborator comfortable working with clients, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
• Interest in working for a recognised, delivery‑focused organisation.
