Design Engineer – Trims, Packaging & Additive Manufacturing

About the role
We are seeking a Design Engineer with expertise in trims, packaging and additive manufacturing to support a global design and technology services client in Manchester. The role involves creating prototype components, bespoke tools and additive‑manufactured parts for automotive projects.
Key responsibilities
- Design prototype bridging components for model‑year updates.
- Create additive‑manufactured parts for demo and mule vehicles.
- Modify components for physical mock‑up builds and develop bespoke R&D workshop tools.
- Reverse‑engineer parts to fit new vehicle packaging.
- Design jigs and fixtures for vehicle test procedures.
- Produce high‑quality CAD models for wind‑tunnel testing and CFD analysis.
- Coordinate with aerodynamics teams on model setup and geometry details.
- Recommend geometry improvements, stitch surfaces and remove overlaps.
- Build CATIA V5 models suitable for aerodynamic testing and rapid prototyping.
Required profile
- Mechanical Engineer with experience from concept to production start.
- Strong knowledge of exterior and interior trim design.
- Proficiency in CAD solid and surface modelling, DMU analysis and PLM systems.
- Hands‑on experience with measurement tools for reverse engineering.
- Good understanding of sheet‑metal design and additive manufacturing technologies.
