Design Manager – 12‑month Fixed‑Term Contract

About the role

We are seeking a Design Manager to lead design on flood and coastal risk management projects within the Environment Agency team. The role is a 12‑month fixed‑term contract based in the South‑West, offering flexible working across offices, project sites and home.

Key responsibilities

• Managing the design process from initial concept through to detailed design, ensuring compliance with client requirements and industry standards.
• Coordinating with multi‑disciplinary teams to drive innovative and cost‑effective engineering solutions.
• Building collaborative relationships with clients and stakeholders to ensure project success.
• Managing design quality procedures and ensuring timely delivery of design information.
• Supporting digital design initiatives and ensuring compliance with BIM standards.
• Delivering high‑quality design solutions for projects valued between £500k and £50m.

Required profile

• Level 6 qualification (degree or equivalent) in an engineering discipline.
• Experience delivering high‑value, complex design work from the main contractor perspective.
• Experience of managing and driving a multi‑discipline technical engineering team.
• Ability to organise, plan, programme and manage workloads.
• Commercial awareness.
• Full driving licence.
• Flexibility to work across offices, project sites and home.
