Design Manager

About the role

The Design Manager will lead the design function for a growing construction business based at the Workington depot. You will be responsible for ensuring design deliverables meet contract requirements, quality standards, and client expectations throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Manage design queries, resolutions and communication across the project team.
• Review contract requirements, ensure compliance and raise information requests.
• Prepare and maintain design programmes and deliverable schedules.
• Chair design reviews and interface meetings with internal and external parties.
• Produce monthly design progress reports and monitor compliance with approval processes.
• Control document registers, drawing distribution and change order management.
• Support assurance functions with design‑specific requirements.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of construction methods and outputs.
• Experience in a consultancy or temporary role completing designs (minimum 12 months).
• Ability to coach others and lead multidisciplinary design teams.
