Design Manager

About the role

Kier is seeking a Design Manager to join its Building Solutions team in London/South. The role involves leading design activities on construction and refurbishment projects up to £20 million, ensuring delivery to high standards and fostering strong client relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of design production, including creating design programmes, responsibility matrices and schedules.
• Coordinate multi‑disciplinary design teams and chair design meetings to promote collaborative working.
• Review designs for contract compliance, health and safety legislation and sustainable building standards.
• Act as the primary point of contact for clients on design‑related matters, building trusted relationships.
• Support project teams to deliver within programme and commercial constraints, managing risks effectively.

Required profile

• HNC/HND/Degree in a construction or engineering subject and membership of a relevant professional body (CIOB, APM, CIAT, RICS).
• Proven pre‑construction experience on projects up to £20 million, with strong experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships with clients, colleagues and the wider supply chain.
• Organised, able to prioritise effectively and work both independently and as part of a team.
• Enthusiastic about continuous improvement and a solution‑focused approach to challenges.
