Design Technology Technician (Secondary School)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Design Technology Technician to join a busy secondary school in the Birmingham/Walsall area from September 2026. You will support the Design Technology department by preparing materials, maintaining equipment and assisting teachers during practical sessions.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and organise tools, materials and equipment for each lesson.
• Support teaching staff during practical activities.
• Maintain workshops, classrooms and storage areas to a high standard.
• Carry out routine maintenance and basic repairs of machinery.
• Monitor stock levels and order supplies as needed.
• Assist with the preparation of displays, projects and examination coursework.
• Ensure health and safety regulations are followed, conduct risk assessments and keep safety records.
• Provide technical support across DT disciplines such as Resistant Materials, Product Design, Engineering, Graphics and CAD/CAM.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Design Technology Technician in a UK secondary school.
• Good understanding of workshop health and safety procedures.
• Strong organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
