Design & Technology Technician – Secondary School (Newham)

About the role

The school is looking for a practical, organised Design & Technology Technician to join its secondary DT department in Newham. Working on‑site, you will help prepare and run hands‑on lessons, ensuring the workshop environment is safe, well‑stocked and fully functional.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare materials, tools and equipment for each DT lesson.
• Maintain and service workshop machinery and specialist equipment.
• Assist teachers during practical sessions and support students in the safe use of tools.
• Monitor stock levels, order consumables and keep the workshop tidy.
• Carry out routine health‑and‑safety checks, including COSHH compliance.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a DT workshop, engineering, manufacturing, construction or school setting.
• Strong practical skills with a range of tools and equipment.
• Good knowledge of workshop health‑and‑safety procedures.
• Organised, proactive and able to juggle several tasks.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
