DevOps Software Engineer

About the role

Saab UK’s BlueBear Business in Bedford is looking for a DevOps Software Engineer to enhance the development and delivery capabilities of its autonomous and unmanned systems software teams. You will be responsible for maintaining and evolving the tooling that supports both desktop and embedded applications.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and improve development tools such as GitLab, JFrog Artifactory, Jira/YouTrack and Bookstack.
• Design, implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and TeamCity, recommending new tools where appropriate.
• Integrate Artifactory with pipelines to manage build artefacts and versioned releases.
• Ensure build, test and deployment pipelines are scalable, reliable and secure.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management.
• Manage integrations between tooling systems to provide seamless developer workflows.
• Support software teams with onboarding, troubleshooting and optimisation of development environments.
• Monitor and optimise build infrastructure performance and availability.
• Implement best practices for version control, branching strategies and release management.
• Maintain compliance with security, reliability and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to identify and remove bottlenecks in the development lifecycle.

Required profile

• Proven experience administering Git‑based platforms such as GitLab.
• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD tools, particularly Jenkins and/or TeamCity.
• Familiarity with artifact repository management using JFrog Artifactory.
• Ability to automate infrastructure and configuration tasks.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and a proactive attitude toward continuous improvement.
