Director, Capital Projects

About the role

The Director, Capital Projects provides strategic leadership for a team that manages capital projects essential to Western University’s academic and research goals. Reporting to the Facilities Management Division, the role shapes the multi‑year capital improvement plan and ensures long‑term resiliency of the campus.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a multi‑year capital improvement plan aligned with university objectives.
• Lead the delivery of large, complex construction and renewal programs from planning through design and construction.
• Manage significant capital budgets and allocate resources efficiently.
• Coordinate with senior executives, board members, consultants, contractors, and government partners.
• Ensure effective communication, collaboration, and alignment across multidisciplinary teams.
• Monitor project performance, compliance, and risk mitigation.

Required profile

• Proven leader in capital projects or infrastructure within university, healthcare, research, municipal or similarly complex environments.
• Demonstrated success delivering large‑scale construction or renewal programs.
• Experience managing substantial capital budgets and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong strategic thinking, judgment, and stakeholder‑management abilities.
• Excellent communication skills with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
