Director, Controller

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Director, Controller to lead the Rebates & Incentives (R&I) accounting function for a European division. Based in London, the role sits within the Europe Controller’s group and reports to the Vice President, Europe Controlling. You will provide senior‑level accounting leadership, ensure compliance with US GAAP and Mastercard policies, and act as a key advisor on revenue and contra‑revenue matters.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the R&I Controller team, delivering clear technical guidance and oversight.
• Oversee the end‑to‑end accounting process for rebates and incentives, ensuring timely and accurate treatment across all countries in scope.
• Provide complex accounting advice on customer agreements, focusing on revenue recognition and contra‑revenue considerations.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, Mastercard policies, and US GAAP standards.
• Collaborate with FP&A, Business Development Finance, Legal, GBSC, Account Management and Regional Finance to support financial and commercial processes.
• Drive projects to completion, improving accounting processes and reporting quality.

Required profile

• Strong technical accounting background, especially in revenue accounting and US GAAP.
• Proven leadership and line‑management experience.
• Excellent analytical and independent problem‑solving abilities.
• Track record of delivering finance projects in a multinational environment.
