Director of Operations – Hospital Executive

About the role

The Director of Operations will join the executive board of St Bartholomew’s Hospital, reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive and the Group COO. This senior leader will shape service transformation, ensure robust governance and drive continuous improvement across a world‑class cardiac and cancer centre.

Key responsibilities

• Lead hospital‑wide operational delivery, aligning clinical and corporate priorities.
• Oversee business planning, performance management and financial control.
• Optimise demand, capacity and patient flow to meet national standards.
• Maintain regulatory compliance and uphold governance frameworks.
• Champion equality, diversity and inclusion, using staff insight to reduce disparities.
• Support the launch of new facilities, including a breast‑cancer centre.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in a complex healthcare environment.
• Strong strategic influence with the ability to work collaboratively with clinical and corporate leaders.
• Deep understanding of NHS operational standards, governance and financial management.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion and staff engagement.
• Excellent communication and change‑management skills.
