Director of People

About the role

The Director of People will join the Executive Board of Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, shaping workforce strategy for a Trust that serves over one million people across Cheshire and Merseyside. Reporting to the Board, the role combines strategic influence with visible leadership to ensure a supportive, engaged, and high‑performing workforce.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of the Trust’s workforce strategy, organisational development and cultural transformation initiatives.
• Oversee staff wellbeing, inclusion, leadership development and talent management programmes.
• Partner with senior leaders across clinical and community services to align people plans with service delivery goals.
• Drive workforce innovation to meet future NHS challenges and maintain the Trust as a great place to work.
• Represent the Trust in external collaborations with partners throughout Cheshire and Merseyside on workforce agenda.

Required profile

• Extensive senior HR leadership experience, preferably at Board level within a large, complex organisation.
• Proven ability to influence strategy, lead cultural change and foster a compassionate, high‑performance environment.
• Strong understanding of NHS or public‑sector workforce dynamics.
• Demonstrated authenticity, warmth and commitment to staff empowerment.
