Director, Principle Engineer - Private Banking

About the role

Barclays is hiring a Director-level Principle Engineer for its Private Banking technology team, based in London or Glasgow. The role defines and drives technical strategy across multiple products, platforms and engineering teams, provides senior technical leadership and balances long-term architectural evolution with near-term delivery priorities. It sits within the Client & Colleague Experience (CCX) tribe.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for the Private Banking App and digital channel strategy, supporting global scale, jurisdiction expansion and client experience transformation.
• Shape reusable digital platforms and shared capabilities such as identity and access management, client data platforms, APIs, communications services and developer tooling.
• Partner with product and engineering leadership on AI-enabled colleague and client experiences, including the Prism banker desktop and productivity initiatives.
• Drive federated engineering and capability ownership models so autonomous delivery teams maintain a consistent customer experience.
• Align architecture and technology direction across Client & Colleague Experience, Client Lifecycle Management, Client Data, CRM and enterprise platforms to maximise reuse and reduce fragmentation.
• Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers, and contribute to strategic planning and product roadmaps.
• Manage a business function, influence policy and procedures, and advise senior functional management and committees.

Required profile

• Ability to manage a business function, lead a large team or sub-function, or act as a deep technical expert and thought leader for an individual contributor.
• Extensive knowledge of how the function fits into the business division and Group, and of industry theory and practice.
• Advanced analytical skills, negotiation with senior stakeholders, and ability to act as principal contact and spokesperson for the function.
