About the role
The Domestic Assistant will maintain high standards of cleanliness across clinical and non‑clinical areas of the hospital, ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for patients, staff and visitors. You will work as part of the domestic service team and collaborate with the wider hospital community.
Key responsibilities
- Clean patient rooms, wards, toilets, bathrooms and communal areas such as lounges and corridors.
- Maintain utility rooms and carry out deep‑cleaning operations where required.
- Use appropriate cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, mops, electric floor cleaners) and chemicals safely.
- Follow infection prevention and control policies and adhere to safety procedures, including fire protocols.
- Apply manual handling techniques and lift safely while on your feet for long periods.
Required profile
- No formal entry requirement, but may need to complete NVQ Level 1 in cleaning.
- Good communication skills, caring and sensitive nature.
- Physical fitness to stand for extended periods and perform manual handling.
Required skills
- NVQ Level 1 cleaning (or willingness to obtain).
- Manual handling techniques.
- Use of cleaning equipment such as vacuums, mops and floor scrubbers.
