DT Technician

About the role

We are looking for a motivated DT Technician to support the Design & Technology department in a modern secondary school near Leeds. Working closely with teachers, you will ensure that workshop machinery, tools and digital equipment are safe, prepared and ready for practical lessons.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare workshop materials, machinery and specialised tools for DT lessons.
• Maintain, service and carry out routine health and safety checks on workshop machinery and hand tools.
• Monitor and manage department inventory, ordering timber, plastics and metals as required.
• Assist teachers and students with practical techniques and machine operation during lessons.
• Enforce Health and Safety, COSHH and risk assessment standards across all DT facilities.
• Maintain CAD/CAM equipment, 3D printers and laser cutters, ensuring software and hardware function smoothly.
• Keep workshops, preparation rooms and storage areas clean, organised and secure.
• Dispose of waste safely in line with environmental and school guidelines.
• Support the setup and display of student work for exhibitions and open evenings.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a DT Technician, preferably in a secondary school setting.
• Enhanced DBS clearance registered on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
• Strong knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, COSHH and workshop safety standards.
• Legal entitlement to work full‑time in the UK.
