ECI Commissioning Engineer

About the role

Veolia is looking for an experienced ECI Commissioning Engineer to lead the deployment, startup and validation of complex control and instrumentation systems at customer sites across the UK. You will act as the technical bridge between design and operation, ensuring solutions meet performance, reliability and safety expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead execution of comprehensive commissioning plans and provide technical oversight for system integration testing and validation.
• Configure and calibrate control systems including VSDs, instruments, metering, PLCs, HMIs and SCADA applications.
• Author and conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) with customers.
• Resolve complex technical issues during startup phases and provide expert troubleshooting under pressure.
• Mentor and train customer personnel and junior engineers on system operation and maintenance.
• Coordinate with project teams, customers and subcontractors while ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, Control Systems Engineering or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of hands‑on experience leading complex commissioning programmes at industrial sites.
• Strong leadership and customer‑facing skills, with at least 5 years as the primary technical authority during critical project phases.
• Knowledge of IEC 61508, IEC 61511 safety standards and industrial communication protocols.

Required skills

• Advanced PLC programming (Allen‑Bradley).
• SCADA platforms such as FactoryTalk and ICONICS.
• HMI configuration and VSD integration.
• Multi‑vendor system integration including instrumentation and metering.
• Communication protocols: Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, OPC/OPC‑UA.
