EC&I Design Engineer

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced EC&I Design Engineer to join a growing team delivering projects across the UK's gas and energy infrastructure sector. You will work on technically challenging projects, producing high‑quality electrical, control and instrumentation designs from FEED through to construction, commissioning and handover.

Key responsibilities

• Produce EC&I design documentation and drawings, including single line diagrams, loop diagrams, cable schedules and hazardous area drawings.
• Develop control philosophies, cause‑and‑effect matrices, instrument indexes and equipment schedules.
• Review vendor documentation and integrate package interfaces into project designs.
• Participate in design reviews, HAZOP studies, client meetings and technical workshops.
• Provide technical support during fabrication, installation and commissioning.
• Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, regulations and safety requirements.

Required profile

• HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control, Engineering Design or related discipline.
• Proven EC&I design experience in gas, oil & gas, energy, utilities or related process industries.
• Strong understanding of hazardous‑area installations and safety‑critical environments.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, engineering specifications and technical documentation.
• Experience producing functional design specifications is advantageous.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Electrical.
• Knowledge of instrumentation systems, PLCs, SCADA systems and control panel design.
• Familiarity with ATEX, DSEAR, IEC 60079 and IEC 61511 standards.
• Experience with EPLAN or AVEVA Electrical & Instrumentation preferred.
