Ecologist – Ecological Consultancy (Essex)

About the role

We are seeking an Ecologist to join a forward‑thinking ecological consultancy based near Essex. The role involves delivering high‑quality ecological services across a variety of projects and supporting the team’s mission to provide innovative, sustainable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct habitat and protected‑species surveys in line with industry standards.
• Prepare detailed ecological reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Ecological Impact Assessments.
• Provide expert advice to clients, ensuring compliance with wildlife legislation and planning policies.
• Assist in designing and implementing mitigation and enhancement strategies.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of best practices, legislation and industry developments.
• Support junior team members and contribute to their professional growth.

Required profile

• Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
• Demonstrable experience in ecological consultancy or a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policies.
• Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM) is desirable.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required.
