Ecologist

About the role

Join a progressive ecological consultancy based near Essex and work on a diverse portfolio of projects that deliver high‑quality ecological services and sustainable solutions. You will collaborate with Landscape Architects, Arboriculturalists and fellow Ecologists to support clients in meeting environmental legislation and planning policy.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out habitat and protected species surveys in line with industry standards.
• Prepare detailed ecological reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) and Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs).
• Provide professional ecological advice to ensure compliance with current legislation and planning policy.
• Support the design and implementation of mitigation and biodiversity enhancement measures.
• Work with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Stay up‑to‑date with ecological legislation, best practices and industry developments.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to their professional growth.

Required profile

• Degree qualified in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
• Experience in ecological consultancy or a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.
• Proven ability to conduct ecological surveys and produce technical reports.
• Membership of a professional body such as CIEEM (advantageous).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required.
