Ecologist / Senior Ecologist – Environmental Consultancy

About the role

We are looking for an Ecologist (or Senior Ecologist) to join a growing environmental consultancy delivering projects across infrastructure, utilities and development sectors. The role combines field surveys, technical reporting, project management and client interaction, with the flexibility to work both on‑site and remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake protected species and habitat surveys, including UKHab and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.
• Act as Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) and support environmental compliance on site.
• Manage ecological projects from survey through to delivery, preparing technical reports such as PEAs, EcIAs, HRA screenings and licence applications.
• Produce habitat maps and conduct spatial analysis using GIS software.
• Build strong relationships with clients, contractors and stakeholders, and support tender submissions.
• Mentor junior ecologists and provide technical guidance (Senior level).

Required profile

• Degree in Ecology or a related environmental discipline.
• 2+ years’ experience for Ecologist level or 4+ years’ consultancy experience for Senior Ecologist.
• Experience delivering protected species and habitat surveys and preparing ecological reports.
• Membership of CIEEM (or working towards) and a full UK driving licence.
• Willingness to travel, including occasional overnight stays.
