Ecommerce AI Engineer

About the role

Salt Search is partnering with a forward‑thinking AI and digital commerce company to hire an Ecommerce AI Engineer. You will join a collaborative, commercially focused team to build AI‑powered ecommerce platforms, digital tools and intelligent agents that enhance customer experience and drive business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and launch WordPress‑based websites, integrating booking engines, payment gateways and customer portals.
• Optimise site performance, security, accessibility, technical SEO and conversion rates; manage GA4, Google Tag Manager, Search Console and Google Ads tracking.
• Analyse customer journeys, create lead‑generation funnels and implement A/B testing to increase qualified leads and revenue.
• Build AI assistants for web, WhatsApp, email and other channels using OpenAI APIs, large language models, RAG, embeddings, vector search and tool‑calling.
• Connect AI agents with CRM, booking and customer‑service platforms; automate enquiries, lead qualification and follow‑up communications.
• Develop integrations via APIs, webhooks and data pipelines; create dashboards and reporting tools covering leads, bookings and performance.
• Identify commercial innovation opportunities, evaluate build‑versus‑buy decisions and recommend suitable tools.

Required profile

• Proven experience in software engineering combined with AI implementation.
• Strong commercial problem‑solving mindset and ability to translate business requirements into measurable technology solutions.
• Experience working closely with engineering, marketing, product and commercial stakeholders.
