Education Officer

About the role

The Education Officer will work within the Tower Hamlets Youth Justice Service and the Virtual School, supporting children and young people involved in the criminal justice system. You will help identify strengths, coordinate education, training and employment pathways, and provide strategic oversight of education provision.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver strategic oversight of education for all children known to the Youth Justice Service.
• Act as the allocated Virtual School Teacher for children in care, or support existing teachers.
• Identify and arrange appropriate education, training and employment opportunities for young people.
• Collaborate with multi‑agency partners to develop personalised education plans.
• Provide casework oversight across both the Youth Justice Service (3 days) and Virtual School (2 days) weekly.
• Support additional children not known to the Youth Justice Service when capacity allows.

Required profile

• Experience working with children and young people in the criminal justice or youth services sector.
• Strong understanding of education pathways, training programmes and employment options for vulnerable youth.
• Ability to work effectively within a multi‑agency team and manage casework across two service areas.
• Excellent communication and partnership‑building skills.
