Electrical and Instrumentation Commissioning Engineer

About the role

This position is based onsite in Barrow‑in‑Furness and involves carrying out test and commissioning activities on complex engineering systems, primarily for nuclear submarine programmes. You will work within a skilled team, taking ownership of shift tasks and developing expertise on designated test systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver commissioning and maintenance activities with a high degree of autonomy while ensuring full compliance with company policies, procedures and legislation.
• Maintain accurate, auditable records of all work using company systems.
• Engage and coordinate with stakeholders to ensure safe, efficient and compliant execution of tasks.
• Review, challenge and provide feedback on technical documentation, drawings and specifications.
• Provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to less experienced team members.
• Represent the organisation during sea trials and other external activities as required.

Required profile

• HNC/HND (or equivalent) in a STEM subject or comparable practical experience.
• Good understanding of electrical and instrumentation systems, including testing and fault finding.
• Awareness of safety procedures and experience working in high‑risk environments.
• Ability to produce, read and review technical documents and drawings.
• Capability to work both independently and as part of a team.
