Electrical Craftsperson

About the role

South West Water is seeking an Electrical Craftsperson to join its Exeter team, supporting both drinking water and wastewater operational sites. The role involves maintaining, repairing and diagnosing faults on a range of electrical and control assets to ensure safe, sustainable and reliable services.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out electrical repairs, maintenance and fault diagnosis across multiple sites and assets.
• Work with electrical, control and process systems to minimise risks to customers.
• Support planned and reactive maintenance activities and collaborate with multidisciplinary field teams.
• Liaise with site teams and stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery of works.
• Complete and update engineering documentation to support operational performance.
• Identify opportunities for asset preservation, fault prevention and long‑term improvement.
• Follow ISO, health & safety and compliance standards, prioritising workload within the maintenance delivery model.
• Undertake training to continuously improve technical and safety skills.

Required profile

• Completed apprenticeship with relevant technical qualifications (City & Guilds, BTEC, ONC/HNC/HND).
• Full UK driving licence.
• Compliance with current 18th Edition IEE Regulations.
• Strong experience in fault finding and three‑phase electrical systems.
• Desirable: City & Guilds Inspect & Test 2391‑10, industrial/commercial electrical experience, knowledge of VSDs, soft starts and motor control systems.

Required skills

• Fault finding on three‑phase electrical systems.
• Understanding of 18th Edition IEE Regulations.
• Knowledge of variable speed drives (VSDs) and soft‑start equipment.
• Motor control system expertise.
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams.
• Experience with RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety).
• Understanding of low‑voltage systems (415 Vac to 24 Vac/DC).
