Electrical Design Engineer – Hybrid (Plymouth)

About the role

Our client, an established engineering consultancy, is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join a multi‑disciplined team working on a major dockyard facility. The role is hybrid, with approximately two days per week on‑site in Plymouth, and offers the chance to influence the design and delivery of critical infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Engage directly with the customer to capture requirements and provide electrical engineering support.
• Scope, design and propose modifications to existing assets or new facilities, covering LV/HV systems, lighting and power distribution.
• Manage the full lifecycle of electrical projects from concept through implementation and maintenance.
• Review and approve technical documentation, ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory and industry standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to align electrical designs with broader infrastructure works.
• Support installation, commissioning and testing phases as required.
• Contribute technical input to risk assessments, project documentation and progress reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline (Master’s or CEng preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of electrical engineering experience in a highly regulated sector such as nuclear, maritime, infrastructure or oil & gas.
• Eligibility for UK Security Clearance (SC) and British nationality with at least five years residency in the UK.
