Electrical Designer – Shipbuilding (Glasgow)

About the role

We are looking for an Electrical Designer to join Belcan’s naval team in Glasgow, delivering high‑quality electrical design solutions for complex shipbuilding projects. The role offers opportunities for both junior and senior engineers to develop and apply their expertise in a collaborative, technically challenging environment.

Key responsibilities

• Create 2D and 3D electrical models using Foran and produce technical documentation with industry‑standard CAD tools.
• Design electrical systems and components, perform schematic analysis, manage cable routing, segregation and load calculations.
• Deliver design outputs that support fabrication and installation, adhering to project schedules, budgets and customer requirements.
• Identify and communicate design risks, changes and efficiency improvements.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve technical challenges.
• Provide mentorship to junior staff (for senior candidates) or receive guidance (for junior candidates).

Required profile

• Relevant experience in electrical design within a marine or shipbuilding environment – junior (some experience or strong academic background), mid‑level (proven industry experience) or senior (significant experience with leadership/mentoring ability).
• Proficiency with CAD software for shipbuilding design, preferably Foran.
• Understanding of marine standards and best practices is desirable.
