Electrical Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join a leading food manufacturing business in Somerset. You will play a key role in maintaining and improving production equipment, ensuring safety, reliability and efficiency in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on production machinery and site equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical and automation faults to minimise downtime.
• Develop and support maintenance schedules to maximise equipment performance.
• Monitor and maintain automated production and control systems, including PLC‑controlled equipment.
• Ensure all engineering activities comply with Health & Safety, Food Safety and Quality Management standards.
• Conduct safety inspections and support internal and external audits.
• Maintain accurate maintenance, compliance and operational records.
• Collaborate with Production, Quality and H&S teams to drive efficiency and product quality improvements.
• Support engineering projects, equipment upgrades and continuous‑improvement programmes.

Required profile

• Qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or related engineering discipline.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably food production.
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Proven ability to carry out fault finding, repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Good knowledge of Health & Safety and safe working practices.
• Experience with HACCP or other food‑safety standards.
• IOSH qualification is desirable.
