Electrical Engineer – Public Sector Building Services

About the role

Barnet Council is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join its Estates – Building Services team in Colindale. You will provide technical expertise across the council’s electrical estate, ensuring safe, compliant and low‑carbon solutions for public buildings.

Key responsibilities

• Design, review and deliver electrical engineering solutions for council projects.
• Produce CAD drawings, specifications, feasibility studies and detailed reports.
• Support compliance with statutory requirements, standards and best practice.
• Lead contract administration, site inspections and contractor performance monitoring.
• Manage budgets, value‑for‑money assessments and procurement processes.
• Collaborate with internal teams, external partners and stakeholders.
• Contribute to low‑carbon and energy‑efficient electrical strategies.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
• Training in Building Services Engineering, energy or sustainability.
• Minimum 5 years of UK electrical engineering experience, preferably in the public sector.
• Knowledge of RIBA Plan of Works, CDM 2015 and the Building Safety Act 2022.
• Experience with contractors, construction contracts and budget management.
• Understanding of public sector procurement and governance.
