Electrical & Mechanical Technician

About the role

We are looking for an Electrical and Mechanical Technician to join our Mill Green (Hatfield) team. You will focus on electrical maintenance and carry out front‑line maintenance and operational activities on sewage pumping stations across Hertfordshire, helping to reduce environmental impact.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate plant failures, diagnose complex faults and perform repairs quickly to minimise process interruptions.
• Install, modify and commission new plant equipment, including motors, gearboxes, conveyors, centrifuges and pumps.
• Maintain and troubleshoot control gear such as 3‑phase motors, starters, variable speed drives, automatic valves and measurement devices.
• Provide technical advice, support and training to trainees and contractors.
• Work safely at all times, complying with health‑and‑safety procedures and emergency standby rota.

Required profile

• Time‑served apprentice or holder of an NVQ/C&G Level 3 in mechanical or electrical engineering with significant experience.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with internal staff, external contractors and trainees.
• Resilient and adaptable to a changing, pressure‑filled environment.

What we offer

• 38‑hour permanent contract, Monday‑Friday, 7:30 am‑3:36 pm.
• One‑week in six‑week out‑of‑hours emergency standby rota with additional payment.
• Base location at Mill Green (Hatfield), AL9 5PE.
