Electrical Technician – Heavy Engineering & Rail

About the role

We are seeking a Level 3 qualified Electrical Technician to join a skilled engineering team in Leeds. You will work on heavy diesel locomotives, performing both electrical and mechanical maintenance in a 4‑on/4‑off shift pattern.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic maintenance, repair and overhaul on locomotives.
• Diagnose, investigate and rectify faults using VMI instructions and engineering drawings.
• Perform routine inspections, examinations and servicing of rolling stock.
• Work rotating shifts, including early, late and night periods.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an electrical and mechanical technician in a heavy‑engineering environment.
• Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in electrical or mechanical engineering.
• Full UK driving licence and ability to pass medical, drug & alcohol screening and DBS check.

What we offer

• Base salary £47,147 per year, with potential to exceed £55,000 through additional duties and training.
• Shift pattern 4 on / 4 off, providing variety and technical challenges.
• Up to six technical training modules (£1,500 each) covering shunter operations, axle & bearing engineering, and more.
