Electrician – Glasgow (Onsite)

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking a qualified Electrician to join its shipbuilding team in Glasgow, working on the construction of Type 26 frigates. The role involves installing and maintaining complex electrical systems in a marine environment, with a focus on safety, quality and timely delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Install a variety of cables (multi‑core, single‑core, coaxial) and electrical components such as junction boxes, fuse panels, consoles, transformers and switches.
• Terminate cables and mount electrical equipment to trade standards.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary shipbuilding teams to ensure efficient completion of installations.
• Maintain compliance with safety, quality and regulatory standards throughout all work.

Required profile

• Completed Modern Apprenticeship (SVQ Level 3) or equivalent trade qualification.
• Hold a valid SJIB card.
• Experience in marine or major industrial electrical installations.
• Familiarity with risk assessments, PUWER, COSHH and safe working procedures.

Required skills

• Cable installation and termination.
• Interpretation of electrical schematics and trade drawings.
• Tag‑out and proving‑dead safety processes.
• Mounting and earthing of electrical equipment.
• Understanding of PUWER, COSHH and related risk assessment protocols.
