Electrician – Glasgow Shipbuilding

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking a qualified Electrician to join its shipbuilding team in Glasgow. You will work on the installation and commissioning of power and control systems for Type 26 frigates, contributing to the delivery of world‑class naval vessels.

Key responsibilities

• Install a variety of cables (multi‑core, single‑core, coaxial) and electrical components such as junction boxes, fuse panels, consoles, transformers and switches.
• Terminate cables and fit all electrical equipment according to trade standards.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with shipbuilding teams to ensure timely, safe and quality‑assured installations.
• Maintain compliance with safety, PUWER, COSHH and quality standards throughout the project.

Required profile

• Completed a Modern Apprenticeship (SVQ Level 3) or equivalent trade qualification and hold a valid SJIB card.
• Experience in marine installations or large‑scale industrial environments.
• Familiarity with risk assessments, PUWER, COSHH and safe working requirements.
• Ability to read trade drawings, electrical schematics and technical instructions.
• Understanding of tag‑out processes and safe proving‑dead procedures.
