Electrician – Marine Installations (Shift Allowance)

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Electrician to join the electrical team responsible for installing power and control systems on Type 26 frigates. The role is based onsite in Glasgow (Govan and Scotstoun) and involves shift work with days, nights and weekend patterns.

Key responsibilities

• Install and terminate multi‑core, single‑core and coaxial cables, junction boxes, fuse panels, consoles, transformers and switches.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation to ensure correct installation.
• Collaborate with shipbuilding teams to meet project timelines and quality standards.
• Carry out risk assessments and ensure compliance with PUWER, COSHH and other safety regulations.
• Perform tag‑out and safe proving‑dead procedures before energising equipment.
• Mount electrical equipment, earthing components and complete cable terminations to trade standards.

Required profile

• Completed Modern Apprenticeship (SVQ Level 3) or equivalent trade qualification.
• Valid SJIB card.
• Experience in marine installations or large‑scale industrial environments.
• Ability to work shifts, including nights and weekends.

Required skills

• Cable installation and termination.
• Interpretation of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Risk assessment and safety compliance (PUWER, COSHH).
• Tag‑out and safe proving‑dead procedures.
• Mounting and earthing of electrical equipment.
