Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

An established engineering manufacturer is looking for an Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of low and medium voltage switchgear for safety‑critical applications. The role is office‑based in Hove with occasional UK and international travel, offering exposure across the full product lifecycle from concept to production support.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop low and medium voltage switchgear assemblies.
• Support new product introduction from feasibility through to production.
• Apply robust design tools such as DFMEA and functional analysis.
• Produce and maintain accurate engineering documentation.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing, investigations and customer site activities.

Required profile

• HNC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Strong mechanical engineering knowledge.
• 2D/3D CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred).
• Understanding of risk management and material properties.
• Awareness of IEC / BS EN standards (e.g., IEC 62271‑1).
