Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Engineer - Electrical Bias

About the role

We are seeking an ambitious Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a busy engineering team in Braintree. You will ensure manufacturing processes run efficiently through preventative maintenance, rapid breakdown response, and continuous improvement projects.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production and site equipment.
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults on machinery, including control panels, PLCs, and inverter drives.
• Support mechanical maintenance tasks such as bearings, belts, gearboxes, and pneumatics.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns to minimise downtime.
• Work on electrical installations, modifications, and improvement projects.
• Fault‑find on automation systems, including Siemens and Fanuc PLCs.
• Complete maintenance records accurately using a PC‑based system.
• Assist with root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions.

Required profile

• Analytical and problem‑solving mindset.
• Recognised electrical qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC/HND, 18th Edition or equivalent).
• Understanding of health & safety standards, safe isolation and risk assessments.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and schematics.

Required skills

• Strong electrical fault‑finding skills.
• Basic mechanical maintenance knowledge.
• Experience with PLC fault finding (programming desirable but not essential).
• Knowledge of 3‑phase systems, motors, drives, sensors and control systems.
