Electronic Engineer – Design & Development

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Electronic Engineer to join our collaborative design and development team in Cumbria. You will be involved in the full product lifecycle, from concept and schematic design through to prototyping, testing and commissioning of innovative electronic and embedded systems.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary designers to create electronic circuitry and embedded solutions.
• Design, simulate and test electrical schematics and printed circuit boards (PCBs).
• Build prototypes, diagnose issues and iterate on both new and existing designs.
• Develop and support firmware for embedded micro‑processors.
• Prepare technical documentation for internal teams, suppliers and customers.
• Provide occasional support for customer training, demonstrations and technical enquiries.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification and proven experience in electronic engineering.
• Strong knowledge of analogue circuitry, amplifiers, signal conditioning, A/D conversion, digital logic and power supplies.
• Proficiency with industry‑standard CAD tools such as Altium Designer.
• Experience with micro‑controllers (PIC, AVR, ARM) and firmware development in C/C++.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.

Required skills

• Analogue circuit design, amplifiers, signal conditioning, analogue‑to‑digital conversion.
• Digital logic, power supply design.
• Altium Designer (or equivalent PCB CAD software).
• Micro‑controller families: PIC, AVR, ARM.
• Firmware development in C and C++.
• Communication protocols: RS232, RS485, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, USB.
• High‑speed digital design, FPGAs, memory devices, clock buffers.
• EMI reduction techniques and compliance requirements.
